Reaching Displaced Communities Across Beirut
In response to the war on Lebanon which started in September 2024, the Hona Beirut youth undertook an inspiring initiative to support the displaced families who were affected by the war. Their efforts reached six shelters and schools across Beirut, hosting displaced civilians and families of Lebanese Army members. Impacting 626 individuals, the youth were able to visit and provide support for six targeted shelters which were chosen to ensure equal representation of Beirut’s diverse areas.
The youth’s approach centered on meeting the most basic needs of these families and providing hygiene kits, school and coloring kits and winter aid kits. Moreover, recreational activities for children became a cornerstone of this initiative, helping to create a sense of hope and normalcy in the midst of chaos.
Recreational Activities: Restoring Childhood Memories
With each visit to the schools and shelters, the youth organized activities such as giving out balloons, games, face painting, and interactive play especially that the children had witnessed the horrors of war with some losing their homes, these moments of joy provided a rare opportunity to experience a sense of normalcy.
The youth’s involvement also served as a therapeutic outlet for themselves, transforming feelings of helplessness into positive action and fostering a sense of purpose.
Independence Day Collaboration with Rotary Beirut Pax Potentia
As part of their ongoing efforts, the youth collaborated with Rotary Beirut Pax Potentia to organize an initiative coinciding with Lebanon’s Independence Day. Recognizing the importance of cultural identity and national pride, the event aimed to reconnect displaced families with their heritage and foster a sense of belonging.
A Message of Hope and Resilience
The youth’s initiatives demonstrated the transformative power of compassion, creativity, and unity. By addressing both the physical and emotional needs of displaced families, they were able to provide moments of hope during one of Lebanon’s darkest periods. Through their efforts, they not only brought relief to those in need but also reminded everyone of t he strength and resilience that can emerge from even the most challenging circumstances.
